Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville: Our Ongoing Commitment to Quality and Safety
12/22/2021
At Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville, our priority is continual elevation of our quality of care and service. Some steps we take are visible to patients while others are behind the scenes. But have no doubt, the improvements are in the best interest of you – our patients, families and the communities we serve.
This year, more than six million dollars has been invested to advance our facility and technologies, including 3-D mammography, an additional surgical robotic system, and updates to our cardiovascular cath lab, urology and vascular surgical suites. Through successful recruitment of more primary care physicians and specialists, area residents have more local access to much needed medical services.
Chief Medical Advisor Dr. David Price serves as Quality Committee chair, working with infectious disease specialist Dr. Titus Daniels and other physicians leading our work to advance quality and safety. New to our medical staff this year, Dr. Daniels also serves as chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee which focuses on the efficacy of medication utilization to achieve quality results. Dr. Daniels has been invaluable in our delivery of care in a pandemic environment and as a resource to our medical staff and employees.
Outgoing Chief of Staff Dr. Jeff Anderson has overseen numerous improvements to enhance safety and quality, including the transition to an intensivist ICU model and adoption of processes to speed cardiac catheterization response times for heart attacks to levels better than the state and national average. We appreciate our physician leaders and the entire medical staff for their clinical expertise and leadership.
Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville was recently granted a Certificate of Need for a satellite hospital on the corner of Trenton Road and 101st Airborne Parkway. Our proposed satellite hospital provides additional medical services and access for patients needing inpatient or emergency care. This facility, set to open in 2024, will further our quest to offer all private inpatient rooms. Thank you to the many community leaders that supported our application for this facility, and for your ongoing support as we move forward.
Our providers use evidence-based practices that support safer care such as electronic health records and monitors to alert nursing staff of a potential patient fall. Barcode scanning of both medications and surgical materials has improved safe medication administration within the organization. Since embarking on this path of increased safety measures, our hospital has reduced serious safety events by ninety six percent.
Patients are rounded on regularly by their assigned nurse and every patient is visited daily by both a nurse leader and a hospital leader. Patients are also engaged in their care during bedside shift reports. The perspective and insights of patients and families are heard through our Patient Family Advisory Council.
I am especially grateful for all our team members who work together to provide quality compassionate care for our patients and their families. The continued battle against COVID-19 has challenged healthcare workers, but our hospital’s heroes step up to the plate, again and again, to care for our community and for each other.
I have never been more proud of our team as I have been over the past two years.
Alex Villa is chief executive officer, Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville
