Tennova Healthcare - Clarksville Breaks Ground on Tennova ER - Sango

Satellite Emergency Department Will Be Open 24/7 to Care for Emergencies

Clarksville, Tenn. (February 23, 2017) – Today, Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville welcomed community, business and healthcare leaders to a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction at the new Tennova ER – Sango, located on Highway 76 just east of I-24 near exit 11. The freestanding emergency department will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to serve patients who experience medical emergencies.
“We are committed to expanding access to emergency services to meet the needs of our rapidly growing community,” said Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville Chief Executive Officer Alex Villa. “Tennova ER – Sango will provide faster access to emergency care for people living in the area south of our main campus.”
Many emergency services can be effectively managed at freestanding emergency departments without the need for transfer to a traditional hospital setting. Like any hospital emergency department, the new Tennova ER – Sango will be equipped to treat patients with illnesses and injuries that require a higher level of care than urgent care facilities offer. The 11,680-square-foot freestanding emergency department will have eight private patient rooms with radiology and lab services on-site. If a higher level of care is required, patients can be transported quickly to the main campus or the facility of their choice.
Board-certified emergency physicians, registered nurses and other patient care providers will staff the center. Dr. Mark Muiznieks, medical director for the Emergency Department at Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville, said, “Our team of emergency physicians is excited about all of the current projects involving emergency medicine in Clarksville. Between Tennova ER – Sango, the renovations underway in the emergency room at our main campus and the future EMS station next door to our hospital, we will be well-equipped to handle the emergency needs of those living in and around the Clarksville community for years to come.”
The groundbreaking is the latest announcement from Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville about work to enhance emergency services. This winter, the hospital began renovations at its main campus ER designed to decrease the time it takes for patients to see a provider and improve behavioral health emergency services. The hospital also signed a non-binding letter of intent to donate more than three acres to Montgomery County Government for the purpose of building a new EMS base and training facility next to the hospital.
Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville worked closely with EMS on the design of Tennova ER – Sango to ensure it meets the needs of first responders.
“We’ve been pleased to work with Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville throughout the planning process for this location and look forward to having another resource for emergency services in our community,” said Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services Chief Jimmie Edwards. “Having a second emergency department will support our EMTs and paramedics so they can transport patients quickly and be available sooner to serve others in the county.”
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. More than 50 new jobs will be created to serve patients at the new center, including registered nurses and lab, imaging, admitting and environmental services staff. As the opening approaches, jobs will be posted at Tennova.com.
