Tennova Healthcare Announces New CEO for Newport Medical Center

KNOXVILLE, TN (November 29, 2018) – The Newport Medical Center Board of Trustees has appointed Matthew Littlejohn as the new chief executive officer for the hospital effective January 2, 2019. For the past year and a half, Littlejohn has served as assistant chief executive officer of Tennova Healthcare’s North Knoxville Medical Center where he oversaw numerous construction and service expansion projects.
At North Knoxville Medical Center, Littlejohn’s construction projects included ambulatory surgery center development, catheterization lab expansion, surgery prep and recovery expansion, renovations to our sleep lab, a new interventional radiology angiography suite, parking additions and the first helipad on the campus. He has helped lead initiatives to collaborate with other regional providers to expand access to services and supported the recruitment of five providers to the medical staff.
“Matthew is the right fit for Newport, given his expertise in recruiting providers, overseeing major capital projects and focusing on quality,” said Larry Butler, chair, Newport Medical Center Board of Trustees. “We look forward to working with him to move our plans forward to enhance how we care for our community.”
Before joining Tennova, Littlejohn was director of strategic planning and project management for Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, SC. During his tenure with Bon Secours, Matthew led the acquisition of a franchised urgent care chain, led the acquisition of a 40-provider group and developed an ambulatory market strategy to increase the number of settings available for patients to receive care.
He holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in business administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Littlejohn is a member of the board of directors for the American Cancer Society – East Tennessee and looks forward to becoming active in the Newport community.
