New Internist Joining Medical Staff

Internist Timothy A. Crater, M.D., is joining the active medical staff of Tennova Healthcare – Harton.
Dr. Crater is joining the practice of Dr. Stephen Bills and Dr. Rob Nichols at Tennova Internal Medicine – Tullahoma (Jackson), helping to fill the need created by the retirement of Dr. Bill Sanders from the clinic last year. He will begin seeing patients in January 2019 and his staff is already accepting appointments. His areas of expertise include the treatment of chronic and acute health conditions in adults (ages 18 and older), and wellness and preventative care.
Dr. Crater graduated from University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. He completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and is board-certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Crater obtained his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Dr. Crater comes to Tullahoma from The Hutchinson Clinic, Hutchinson, Kansas where he served on their Board of Directors and served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He served as clinical preceptor for third and fourth year medical students in internal medicine instructing more than 30 medical students during his 15 years at the clinic. He has served as the site primary investigator for numerous clinical research studies and has been interviewed about clinical research by U.S. News and World Report and The Economist.
Dr. Crater was commissioned as a second lieutenant through Army ROTC at Wake Forest. After completing Field Artillery officer’s training and airborne school, he was assigned to the First Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He served as a Fire Support Officer in Delta Company, 1-34 Armored Battalion during Operation Desert Storm. He was also a Fire Direction Officer and a Targeting Officer in 1-5 Field Artillery Battalion. His individual awards include the Bronze Star medal, Army Commendation medal, Army Achievement medal with oak leaf cluster, and the military parachutist badge. Dr. Crater was honorably discharged as a Captain in the US Army Reserve in 2007.
Dr. Crater and his wife Rachelle have four children. They are excited about coming to Tullahoma and look forward to becoming active members of the community. In his spare time, Dr. Crater enjoys reading and hiking.
