Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville Now Offering Inpatient Infant Care Classes
1/26/2018
Tennova Healthcare – Clarksville is now offering Inpatient Infant Care Classes for mothers delivering at the hospital. Mothers (only) may bring their infant to the classes where they will learn helpful infant care information, as well as self-care tips for their own recovery. Topics include infant bathing, nutrition and feeding, skin care, and other baby safety related items.
Tennova is also offering a second class for mothers’ and their significant others. This class will not have the infants present, but allows parents and support persons to learn together about caring for their infant.
Both classes will occur Monday through Friday during the day. Mothers may ask their nurse about the class while they are patients in the hospital.
These new classes join Tennova’s existing offerings, which include Prenatal, Breastfeeding and Sibling Classes.
- Prenatal Classes help parents-to-be anticipate situations that may arise during pregnancy and labor. Classes offer information on what to expect during labor, relaxation techniques, analgesia/anesthesia, newborn care and a tour of the Family Birth Center. The classes consist of five, two-hour sessions and are held on consecutive Wednesdays or Thursdays at 7 p.m. Classes should be attended between the 26th and 34th week of pregnancy. Registration is required.
- Breastfeeding Class covers initial steps to successful breastfeeding, uses for breast pumps and other supplies. Registration is required. Classes are normally taught on the first Tuesday of every month from 7-9 p.m.
- Sibling Class offers an introduction to sibling interactions, a tour of the Nursery, and time to mingle with other children from expectant families. The class is normally offered the last Saturday of the month from 12-1 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Classroom. Registration is required.
